Storage & Disinfecting

Short term storage: Disconnect all tubing, drain excess water, empty and roll reservoirs. Use our provided straps to keep items tightly rolled. Store your clean and dirty components in separate compartments of our storage bag. We designed the bag with a water resistance separator to reduce cross contamination, and mesh covered pockets to help the components dry quickly.


Long term storage: To disinfect, mix 2 drops of regular bleach in 1L of water. Assemble your system and filter bleach water through. If you only have a filter, use a water bottle filled with the disinfectant solution. After the bleach solution, filter 1 liter of clean water. Remove the filter’s cap, and air dry for 2-3 days, then store.

What is the capacity? 

Our Neptune Series™ filter is rated at 5000 Liters, or 1320 gallons, but it's possible your filter may last longer with proper care. Backflush often, and avoid very turbid/dirty source water when you can. Please follow all of our care/storage instructions - as long as your filter's flow rate is acceptable after backflushing and cleaning, you can continue to use it.

Can I put my filter in the freezer? 

No, freezing your filter or exposing it to extreme heat could damage the filter media! If you're operating in a cold environment, it's a good idea to keep your filter close to you while you sleep, to keep it from freezing overnight.

Flow Rate Issues - Backflushing & Purging Air

If your filter flow rate slows down, you may need to purge air from your filter, backflush it, or remove calcium buildup. This is completely normal, and should be part of your normal routine when you use the Neptune Series™ filter.


We recommend backflushing after every 5 liters of water you filter to prevent buildup and keep your flow rate fast. Backflush every 1-3 Liters if your source water is particularly dirty. To backflush your filter, fill a water bottle with clean water (use our Tellus™ bottle or a SmartWater bottle) and screw your filter's "clean" side onto the bottle. Squeeze 0.5-1L of water through your filter. You may use warm water (130F or less) for backflushing.



Trapped air in your filter may also be causing the flow rate to slow down. To purge the trapped air, filter 1 liter of water into your reservoir. Lift your clean reservoir above your dirty reservoir, and allow water to flow back through filter. Wait for the air bubbles to disappear from dirty reservoir, then lower clean reservoir. Your flow rate should improve.


If backflushing or purging air doesn't improve the flow rate, try soaking your filter in warm vinegar for 30-60 minutes, and backflush with warm water. You may have to do this a few times to achieve the desired flow rate.

Does it remove viruses? 

Our filter has a pore size of 0.1 Microns and removes:


99.9999% of Bacterias (including E. Coli)

99.9% of Parasites (including Giardia Lamblia)

99% of turbidity ("cloudiness" or "haziness")


Our filter does not remove viruses or harmful chemicals.

Does it contain BPA? 

No, the filter and it's components is BPA free. Our filter material meets U.S. FDA, TUV, and SGS regulations and standards, and also meets EPA & EU 98/83/EC drinking water standards.

What does the Lifetime Warranty cover?

Can I get replacement pre-filters? 

How often do I need to change the pre-filter? 

After every 5 Liters, unscrew the cap and check the pre-filter. If it looks particularly dirty or full of debris, go ahead and change it. The frequency will depend on how dirty your source water is. The pre-filters can be washed and reused, but we recommend using fresh pre-filters when you can.


When filtering particularly turbid, muddy, silty water, you can remove the pre-filter to increase your flow rate. The pre-filter is very good at catching large particles, so dirty source water could slow your flow rate down to a trickle, or even stop it completely. If you have to remove the pre-filter, backflush often to keep your filter in good shape.

First time use instructions

Our reservoirs are manufactured to high standards and are made from taste-free food grade TPU material. However, it's always a good idea to clean your reservoir before your first use.


Best cleaning methods:


Cleaning Tabs (Recommended)

Baking Soda - Mix 2 TBSP of baking soda per 2 liters of water. Add the mixture to your reservoir, shake it to mix the ingredients, let sit for 30 mins, then rinse/dry thoroughly.

Soap & Hot Water

Bleach - Fill your bladder with water, mix in 1 TBSP of bleach per 2L of water. Let sit for 30 mins, then rinse/dry thoroughly.

Cleaning, Drying & Storage

After prolonged use (2+ weeks) or before long term storage, it's always best to thoroughly clean your reservoirs.


CLEANING METHODS

-Baking Soda - Mix 2 TBSP of baking soda per 2 liters of water. Add the mixture to your reservoir, shake it to mix the ingredients, let sit for 30 mins, then rinse/dry thoroughly.

-Soap & Hot Water

-Bleach - Fill your bladder with water, mix in 1 TBSP of bleach per 2L of water. Let sit for 30 mins, then rinse/dry thoroughly.


 

DRYING & STORAGE

Keep your reservoirs upright or sideways while drying to allow moisture to escape, and wipe the inside with a towel to speed up the drying process.


Whisk - Place a whisk inside the reservoir and lay it on it's side to dry.

Freezer - Roll up your reservoir and store it in the freezer. Rinse with clean water before next use to loosen any ice.  

You may also clean them with a bleach solution, roll them up, and store them for future use without drying or freezing. 

Can I order a replacement or spare reservoir?

What material is the reservoir made from? Does it contain BPA? 

The reservoirs and components are BPA free.


Our reservoirs are made of FDA food grade Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) material, which is BPA free, durable, lightweight, and can be stretched up to 750% it's original size. It was an obvious choice for us, and you'll find it to be dependable in the field for many years to come.  


The seals and welds in our reservoirs are made using a thermal binding process. The strength of the bonds can withstand up to 440lbs of pressure, all without using harmful chemicals or glue.

Cleaning & First Use

Although our bottles are made from taste-free material, it's always a good idea to wash your bottle out with warm water and soap before first use.

Drying & Storage

Bleach & Store - Clean your bottle with a bleach solution, empty, roll, and store. The leftover bleach will keep your bottle clean and wont harm the bottle material.

What is the Tellus™ bottle made from? Is it BPA free?

The Tellus™ is BPA free.


The bottle is made from 3 materials: PET, PE, and Nylon. Each material serves a purpose, like providing a rigid structure and a taste-free experience.


The outer layer is designed to be printed on, plus it provides the necessary strength for the bottle to stand. The middle Nylon layer provides an oxygen barrier, as well as additional strength. Finally, the inner layer also helps with the bottle strength, but most importantly, it acts as a taste-free food grade lining.

What is your return & exchange policy?

RETURNS & EXCHANGES

We have a 30-day return & exchange policy - you have a full 30 days to return any product to us for a refund. As long as you are using your product the way it was intended (following our care/use/maintenance instructions) and you are still unsatisfied, please return them to us so we can give your money back to you!


If you'd like to exchange an item, please return it to us in it's original packaging and condition, and we'll be more than happy to exchange it for you.  


Our customer satisfaction is a top priority for us. However, we cannot process a return or exchange for an item that has been misused, altered, "repaired" or abused. Please follow all care/maintenance instructions in the product manual or on our website.

REFUNDS

We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund.

What is your shipping policy? 

We do our best to pack and ship all orders placed before 3pm MST on the same day. If we can't, we'll ship the next business day. Orders placed over the weekend will be packed and shipped the next business day.
